Magnus Ranstorp contributes to the EU's strategy for preventing violent extremism and radicalisation
Magnus Ranstorp, Strategic Advisor and Associate Professor at the Centre for Societal Security, has been appointed as one of 15 international experts to join the EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation.
The committee, whose members are appointed by the European Commission, will provide strategic advice to EU member states on issues related to radicalisation and extremism.
“We will also guide research in the field to address radicalisation and extremism within the EU”, says Magnus Ranstorp.
The EU strategy for preventing radicalisation
The EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation will support the European Commission in shaping the EU’s strategy to prevent radicalisation. This includes providing advice on the EU’s strategic directions, contributing to policy documents, and offering feedback on research reports, events, and other initiatives. The committee also plays a role in developing annual work plans, suggesting research topics, and conducting expert reviews of training programmes, future scenario analyses, and strategic communication efforts.

“This is a continuation of the work I started almost 15 years ago. In 2011, I was involved in establishing the EU Radicalisation Awareness Network, an initiative led by then-European Commissioner Cecilia Malmström. This network laid the foundation for the EU’s preventive efforts against extremism and has now evolved into the EU Knowledge Hub,” says Magnus Ranstorp.
“That is why I am very pleased to further deepen and expand this work with the EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation. This initiative will integrate policy, practice, and research to strengthen our preventive measures against violent extremism and terrorism in the future,” he continues.
